About the artist

 

MB Hopkins graduated cum laude from Wright State University in 1983 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting; she attended on fellowship Yale University School of Music & Art and has been a designer and illustrator at the Dayton Daily News for 27 years, where she has received dozens of local and national awards for illustration and design.

An active participant in regional arts organizations, MB is a current member of the Dayton Visual Arts Center and a former member of the Dayton Printmaker's Cooperative.  Her work has been included in many exhibitions including the Marian Library Gallery at the University of Dayton, the Diane Kidd Gallery at Tiffin University, the Dayton Visual Arts Center gallery and its annual auction and members’ show, Stivers School for the Arts, the Victory Theatre (now the Victoria), Seattle East Coffee Shop, the Yellow Springs Baking Co., the Woodland Cemetery Annual Photography Show and the Dayton Lesbian and Gay Center's Pride Celebration.  She and Jane Black were co-curators for the Matter of Heart show, a fundraising exhibition of 20 local artists in January 2001.

MB’s honors for newspaper illustration and design include awards from the international Society of News Design, National Headliners (sponsored by the Press Club of Atlantic City), Print Magazine Regional Design, Applied Arts Annual of Canada, the Associated Press Society of Ohio, the Society of Professional Journalists/Queen City Chapter, the Cleveland Press Club, Best of Cox, and, locally, ArtCenter Dayton and the Dayton Daily News Publisher's Award.
